Official Synopsis[]

All stars must fall.

Bloody, lost, broken. We live to fight another day. But with so much stolen from us, can the fates ever twist in our favour again?

My sister and I have been torn apart by shadows and despair, and now we each stand alone.

Our sorrow is spun like a web, trapping us tight, and I fear our enemies will soon come to feast upon our souls.

But if I have my way, the merciless sky will have dealt us its final fortune. It’s time for us to take back the power that’s been ripped from our grasp and turn the tide of this war.

All stars must fall, and all Phoenixes must rise.

Long live the Savage Queens.

Plot[]

The book begins with Darcy having arrived at a mountain after following a falling star when she left the battlefield. She gets to a lake where the star landed in and it emits a bright light and Darcy sees a vision of her parents that was sent to her from the past.

Tory leaves the battlefield after having spent hours with Darius’ body. On her way she finds Orion sword, the Imperial Star as well as Catalina’s and Hamish’s bodies and she decides to create ice coffins for them and Darius and bring them with her on the way to find the surviving rebels.

Lance is forced to go to the Palace in chains and there he sees Xavier wings that Lionel orders his servers to display and finds a tortured Gabriel.

The rebels managed to find another hiding spot and Geraldine wakes and heals herself by eating aconite and shifting to her Cerberus form. Once she regains consciousness she finds Xavier and helps heal him.

Tory finds the camp thanks to signal they left for her to follow and Geraldine and Xavier are distraught when they see the caskets but Geraldine tries to console him. The rest of the rebels pass by the caskets to pay there respect and after that someone shows Tory to her room where Dante and Leon appear asking after Gabriel. When she informs them she doesn't know where he is they decide to return to the battlefield to look for him.

Tory makes a plan to save the Heirs and Geraldine goes with her. When they arrive at Acrux Manor they find the Heirs and their families are being used to charge a rift for Lavinia that drains their powers. Tory and Geraldine manage to free them while killing the Nymphs guarding them and then they head to Lionel’s treasure vault, where they use stardust to take all his treasure and on their way out the set fire to the manor.

While all these events are taking place, some students still attending Zodiac Academy form an undercover A.S.S. club and they meet to discuss how they can help with the war against Lionel. During one of these meetings they are warned by Marguerite that Mildred and the K.U.N.Ts have discovered them and they manage to escape just in time.

Later Darcy is called to the Palace by Lavinia and when she sees Orion’s state she loses control of the Beast and attacks Lavinia but isn’t strong enough and is locked in the cage with Lance. Stella shows up asking for forgiveness but Lance refuses.

While Gabriel’s family are looking through the ruins of the Burrows they are unable to find him but they discover Washer under a pile of collapsed rocks who tells them that Gabriel was taken by Lionel.

Justin is still floating in the air with the parachute that was created by one of the twins and is followd by the Nymphs. He somehow manages to arrive after days in the new rebel camp with the nymphs following him and they try to attack the camps but are quickly subdued by Tory and the Heirs. Thats when it’s revealed that Diego’s father Miguel was one of the Nymphs and he asks to speak with Tory claiming he wants to help them.

The rebels decide to leave their camp and head for the sea where they will be more protected. Once they arrive they separate a piece of land to create an island and Geraldine names it R.U.M.P. (Rebels’ Undying Mighty Province). They all work together to move this island using their Elements to travel the sea so Lionel can’t find them. Geraldine then builds a castle in the middle of the island for Tory and her court.

Tory and Caleb visit the Library of the Lost in order to find a way to track Darcy using dark magic and they find a secret room where there are five books of the elements and they discover the fifth element is called Ether. When they try to read it they are attacked by creatures called the Keepers of the Lost Knowledge but they manage to fight them of and escape with the books.

Lionel visits Zodiac Academy to give a speech and is ambushed by Milton and the A.S.S. club and while they're trying to escape, they hide in Nova’s office where they witness Lionel using Dark Coercion on her.

Darcy and Lance discover a secret door that leads to Amantium Caelum, a room built as gift for an old Vega queen. Through there they find a door leading to the Royal Treasury where they find a Memoriae crystal that shows them how the Pheonix Order died out. They also found an enchanted music box that contained the Libra Guild Stone, and a book about Phoenixes. They rescue Eugene Dipper from Lionel who tells them about the experiments Vard is running on captured Fae.

Tory makes a deal with Miguel and visits a secret Nymph village that is full of Nymphs who don’t follow Lavinia and there she visits the Oracles and learns how to control the Ether.

Francesca visits the palace under false pretences in an effort to save Orion but is discovered by Lionel who kills her but not before she managed to get into his head using her giftes and store some of his memories in her memory loop ring, which she gives to Orion. Lance and Darcy then give the ring to Eugene to keep along with the rest of the items that they found.

Lavinia mates with Lionel and gives birth later that night to Tharix.

The Heirs, Tory, Xavier, Geraldine, Dante, and Leon form a plan to rescue Darcy, Orion, and Gabriel but they are unsuccessful when they realize the Dragons of the Dragon Guild made a Guardian Bond with Lionel. Seth however witnesses Lavinia giving birth and Dante manages to save Juniper and her three children. When Tory goes to rescue Darcy she is attacked by the Shadow Beast and she only manages to escape thanks to Caleb. Max and Xavier try to rescue the captured Fae but they refuse to leave without fighting and they’re all killed by the Dragon Guild.

While Xavier and Max are looking for a way out of the palace they run across Xavier’s wings and they take them with them. Because they are trapped by the Dragons with no way out, Max uses his Order gifts to release a Dread Song, shuttering his enemies minds. They managing to leave through a secret passage where they met up with the others and they all stardust away.

Lavinia meets up with Lionel, his Guardians, Darcy and Lance. There she introduces Tharix to all of them.

During the Venus celebration, Caleb and Seth spend the night together only to be interrupted the next day when their mother walk into the room finding them in bed together. They are shocked and worried about a potential scandal and order them to never to anything similar again.

Rebel healers manage to reattach Xavier’s retrieved wings and he tests them out on a flight with everyone cheering him on. Afterwards, Seth pulls him aside along with Sofia and Tyler and presents them the memory loop ring Eugene had given him when they rescued him from the castle. Tyler publishes the memories which cause an uproar and Lionel holds a press conference the following day with the hope of appeasing the citizens, but is once again ambushed by the rebels with exploding sewage.

Stella takes the Death Bond from Lance saving him and freeing Darcy in the process by killing herself. The Shadow Beast seperates itself from Darcy and attacks them, being joined by Tharix. While Lance fights Tharix, Darcy manages to severely wound the Beast, retrieving her powers and Order from it and then breaks its collar, freeing it from Lavinia’s control.

During the fight they discover Kings Vega’s sword that bursts into purple flame and Queen Vega’s silver sword. They get to Gabriel, release him and attempt to escape but are intercepted by Lavinia and her Nymphs. Darcy confronts Lavinia and manages to lock her control of the Shadows, trapping them inside her. Lavinia then loses control of the Nymphs who she had forced to follow her and they turn their attacks to their own kind. As she is about to kill Lavinia, Tharix appears and takes her away. They manage to get to the Palace and steal stardust to escape before they’re caught by Lionel.

At the same time Tory is in the Damned Forest fighting her way towards Darius and facing creatures that take the form of her biggest insecurities. She manages to go through the Veil and find Darius' soul but the Veil starts closing. She holds on to him out of sheer will, binding her soul to him and manages to bring him back. Once she wakes up she finds him by his mothers coffin and he informs her that he had seen her parents, his mother, Hamish and Azriel and that they had fought against the dead trying to escape and held open the Veil in order to buy her time so she could succeed.

Milton and the other students livestream the attack that takes place in Zodiac by monstrous creatures that Lionel sent and the Heirs along with Gerldine run to their aid and stardust to the Academy. Gabriel sees all that in a vision and so he heads there as well with Darcy and Lance. Tory calls Geraldine who informs her of what’s happening so she and Darius rush there as well. Once they all reunite they manage to kill all the monster with the help of a spell Tory had learned in the Book of Fire. After the battle ends everyone circles around the twins and Darius pushes his way to the front, kneeling before them and pledging his allegiance to them. After the others recover from their shock, the Heirs, Lance and everyone gathered follow his lead. That’s when the twins notice the Councilors with the rest of the rebel army has arrived as well and they also kneel before them.

The Imperial Star starts pulsing, alerting them that they can now wield it. Before they can do that the sky fills with bright lights and they come in contact with the Stars who finally reveal the Broken Promise. The twins fulfill the Broken Promise, but Clydinius betrays them, creates two clones of them and traps them in a cavern without their powers. If they shift into their Phoenixes, they will die.
